Foresite’s Civil Construction Plant Operations course is designed for people who want to work as a plant operator on construction, infrastructure, and earthmoving projects. Through a mix of classroom learning and practical on-site training, you will learn to safely operate machinery such as excavators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes and rollers. You will also build essential worksite skills in trenching, levelling, reading plans, environmental care, and site safety procedures, covering everything an employer expects from a qualified operator on day one.

This course is ideal for new entrants to the industry or current workers wanting to formalise their skills and progress their career. It is designed for people who are ready to do physical, practical work in an environment where no two days look the same and who want a qualification that genuinely opens doors in civil construction. You do not need prior machinery experience to enrol.
The course runs over 24 weeks, with 2 to 3 contact days per week. You progress through a series of course modules which provide you with the skills and knowledge to work safely and effectively across a range of civil construction tasks, and the practical skills to operate multiple types of plant and equipment.
Before you enrol, you will complete a suitability review, a short medical and task checklist, and a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment to make sure the course is the right fit for you. These are not barriers to entry. They are designed to help us understand how best to support you throughout the course.
You will also be required to supply and wear your own steel-capped safety boots for all training sessions.
